| T.A.T.U. (Teens Against Tobacco Use) - Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.) groups are established in all DeKalb County High Schools. This group's purpose is to influence youngsters to avoid tobacco use and become advocates for a tobacco-free America. These teens are trained as peer tutors to educate younger students about the harmful effects of tobacco and why they chose to be tobacco free. T.A.T.U. concentrates on 5 components
-
Developing skills to teach younger children about tobacco use and
become advocates for a tobacco-free community.
- Understand and identify the positive aspects of being tobacco free and
realize that the majority of teens and adults do NOT smoke.
- Understand how tobacco advertising and promotions deceive youth.
- Understand how getting hooked on tobacco destroys youth's freedom and control over their lives.
- Develop self-confidence. T.A.T.U. is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association.
